How to use OnCourse Bluetooth GPS Receiver Edition 2 with Dell X51V WM5 and Tomtom6?

    Locked Reply Contact

I just ordered a OnCourse Bluetooth GPS Receiver Edition 2. I am planning to use it with my Dell X51v WM5. I readed the PDF documents in the CD. But i am still confused. The documents said that for the X51s we need the special setup. But do we still need the do the PocketPC(WM5) setup? What is the relationship of the three COM ports? Is the GPS COM port in Bluetooth setup page same as the GPS COM port in hardware setup page. I can not find the baud rate 38400bps. There are 33600bps and 57600bps. Whichone should i choose or how can i find the 38400bps.

Could you please give us a full instruction about using OnCourse Bluetooth GPS Receiver Edition 2 wiht Dell X51v WM5 and TomTom6 . I used BT338 before. I very easy to use with Dell V51v WM5. I just need to setup the bluetooth.

    Thanks

Re: How to use OnCourse Bluetooth GPS Receiver Edition 2 with Dell X51V WM5 and Tomtom6?

STEP 1: Yes, please read the step-by-step guide to setup a Bluetooth GPS in WM5 devices below:

How to configure a Bluetooth GPS Receivers with Windows Mobile 5 devices? (Use COM 7 as your outgoing COM port. Uncheck Secure Connection checkbox and DO NOT create any incoming COM Port).

     STEP 2:

Once the GPS is paired up, do the following:

    - Launch TomTom Navigator

    - Choose Agree

    - Tap anywhere on the screen / background to bring up options

    - Choose Change preferences

    - Tab over several screen until you see show GPS Status

    - Then choose Configure

On this screen, make sure the picture shows Other Bluetooth GPS/TomTom Wireless GPS.  If it doesn't, you can use the arrows on either side of the picture to browse through the selections.

Once Other Bluetooth GPS/TomTom Wireless GPS is shown, choose select and this will bring you back to the GPS Status screen.  On the top left there may be some small black text that may say No GPS Device! or No Valid GPS Signal

If it says No Valid GPS Signal the GPS Receiver and PDA are communicating properly and both will need to be placed outside temporary to have access to a clear sky view in order to get a GPS Signal.

Re: How to use OnCourse Bluetooth GPS Receiver Edition 2 with Dell X51V WM5 and Tomtom6?

    Thank you for your reply.

You mean I do not need to setup the gps for Dell X51v as the Documents within the CD said?

The Document in the cd said: For Dell X51 WM5

Go to PDA Start--Settings--system--Gps and setup the program port and the hardware COM port and brau rate.

I fellowed your linked instruction and still do not have the color screen in Tomtom. But the Gps receiver's green light is flashing which mean the Gps receiver has signal.

So I setup the GPS setup of my PDA and then start Tomtom again, I got the color screen.

    My question is

1, Why do i need to setup the GPS setup and the bluetooth connection of my PDA when i use Oncourse 2. But I just need to setup the bluetooth connection oo my PDA when i use BT 338(On course 1)?

2,The GPS setup of my PDA need to setup the program COm port and the hardware COM port and brau rate. The bluetooth setup of my PDA also need to setup the outgoing Com port. There are 3 COM ports here. What is the relationshipo between them? How should i setup them?

3, The document in the cd ask to setup hardware brau rate 38400bps. But Dell X51v WM5 only have 33600 and 57600. I do not know how to setup this. Now i'm using 33600 which is close to 38400. The GPS works now. But i want to do the right setup and best result.

I do not know if i discribe everything clearly.

    Thank you again.

Re: How to use OnCourse Bluetooth GPS Receiver Edition 2 with Dell X51V WM5 and Tomtom6?

    1) If you have setup BT-338 already on this PDA, you MUST DELETE the pairing first prior to pairing the new OnCourse Edition 2 receiver.

Please refer to the TWO Major Steps listed on previous post.

    2) Please restore the GPS setting to DEFAULT and do not touch it until you have consulted Dell or refer to the PDA User's Manual. The features on that page is out of the scope of our support.

Default setting for your Axim x51v: Tap on Start | Settings | System tab and tap on GPS icon:

Under Programs tab: GPS program port = COM9

Hardware tab: Hardware port = COM1, Baud rate = 4800

Access tab: Keep the check box *** CHECK *** for Manage GPS automatically (recommended).

    3) Keep it at 4800 and please ignore the doc on CD. Typo. Sorry for the confusion.
