Yes [Y] Blackberry Curve -T Mobile and Holux m-1000

Recently received my Holux m-1000, initially  I had all types of trouble. Installed in the Curve are Google Maps, Live Search and Blackberry maps. Google Maps version 2.0.0 works great, however Blackberry Maps finds 10 satellites initially then as I drive,(in Los Angeles) looses all satellites and shows "searching for satellite". How can I get a lock onto and keep Blackberry maps. I prefer Blackberry maps because of it's dashboard feature, which shows current speed, direction traveling and current amount of satellites locked. Eventually I plan to purchase mapping software on a mini disk for the Blackberry Curve and discontinue my data plan. What's your recommendation for least expensive, plug and play mapping software.

Unfortunately, I could not recommend any because they do not exist in the current market. All current solutions in the market such as BB Maps or TeleNAV or Garmin Mobile 10 for Blackberry require that you have a data connection.

To get a good lock, be sure you:

    1) Turn off WiFi radio in your phone / laptop (if any)

    2) Place the GPS unit on the dashboard, or at one of the corners of your dashboard and DO NOT place the GPS in your glove box or console area /gear shift or passenger seat / inside of your jeans / pocket because these locations does not have a clear sky or direct view to the sky.

    3) and be sure you get GPS position fix first before moving on. If you keep driving before GPS Position is obtained, you will probably be spending 10 time longer to obtain a GPS position fix as you are now a moving target.

Thanks for the tips on getting a good lock and GPS receiver placement. What software would you recommend that's compatible with the Holux m-1000 and Blackberry 8320. I would prefer a mini disk rather than DVD, because a mini disk is easier. Simply insert and use. Would I still need a data plan? Thank you...

Sorry but at this time, there is no solution in the market that has maps pre-loaded to a storage card and may be used without a data plan / Internet connection.

You have the following choices that you may used with your Holux M1000:

    1) Google Maps for Mobile (free, check it out here: www.google.com/gmm)

    or

    2) Garmin Mobile 10 for Blackberry: http://www.buygpsnow.com/garmin-mobile-for-blackberry-with-gps-10x-gps10x-bt-gps-dvd-with-north-america-software-for-blackberry-free-vent-mount-857.aspx

    or TeleNAV.

Once again thank you very much for your reply/expertise. However, from your reply you're recommending I purchase a Garmin device, pay a subscription fee annually or monthly. What should I do with the new Holux m-1000 I recently purchased from buy GPS now? What I exactly need is a GPS receiver and software that's compatible with the Blackberry Curve to use occasionally, (three or four times a year on vacation) here in the U.S.  Please help. Oh, using Google Maps or Live Search here in Los Angeles was not useful because neither offers voice directions or rerouting. Please reply.

Re: Blackberry Curve -T Mobile and Holux m-1000

If you have use Microsoft Live Search, it does automatically pop up a small windows if you would like to reroute from the current point as soon as you go off the proposed route / missed a turn.

Please try to download it onto your device and validate that the software would run correctly: Live Search for BlackBerry (Beta)

Yes, it is free, so no voice is included, which some user my find it okay and some may not. If you want voice guidance, you will need to go with either Garmin Mobile 10 for Blackberry

Garmin Mobile for BlackBerry with GPS 10x (GPS10x BT GPS, DVD with North America Software for Blackberry) (Free Vent Mount) 857

or Google Maps for Mobile (www.google.com/gmm)

Re: Blackberry Curve -T Mobile and Holux m-1000

Thanks for your reply, I really appreciate your patience. Thank you for the link to Live Search, I had the correct link. The main problem I'm having is maintaining a constant Bluetooth connection between the Holux m-1000 and the Blackberry Curve. Looking at the specs for the Holux m-1000, I must select the correct Com Port and Baud to 38400. This can only be done with an optional cable, which I will only use once. No thanks. Again, Google Maps and Live Search are installed however I get frequent disconnects. Is there another GPS receiver that's compatible out of the box.  I will continue my data plan with T-Mobile.

Per out live chat, we concluded that the M1000 you received is defective. You said: The GPS disconnects itself randomly and then reconnect itself with your GPS software a few seconds later.

Please send it back for an exchange. Sorry for the inconvenience.

I suggest getting Mapquest. I use it on my 8320 with T-Mobile and live in Houston, TX and I never loose a satellite. It gives voice directions and is accurate even in the walking mode. It gives directions for driving or walking. It is a great addition and the cost is only 4.99 a month.

    RickyPrice,

Which GPS Receiver are you using with your BlackBerry 8320?

BTW: I went to MapQuest and their Navigator is priced at $9.95 per month. How did you get the half price? URL please. Thanks.
