    Best Bluetooth GPS?? Flying,Boating,Driving,Biking,

Okay you have over 20 Bluetooth GPS units on your site.

I already  have the software ie Tomtom, PocketFMS(for flying), and other programs for hiking and city walking.

But what is the best Bluetooth GPS on your site for someone that will be using the unit in all these varied activities Flying, Boating, Driving, Biking and hiking or walking around a large city.

What is the best unit period and why?

Finally are any of the units able to send corrected altitude as one of the parameters.

I know that some of the units cripple some of the data parameters it would be nice to know which data paramters each unit cripples.

I used to have the I-737 and I know one of its data parameters were crippled.

Well anyway and all help would be vastly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

    Kevin Davis

    Re: Best Bluetooth GPS?? Flying,Boating,Driving,Biking,

    Hi Kevin,

Thanks for your post. I cannot tell you which one is the best because in terms of performance, they are about the same these days, except for the size and any other special features they may have.

So, any unit that is based on MTK 51 channel or SiRF StarIII, they are equally good. GPS in general, regardless of SiRF or MTK, will not provide very accurate altitude reading and this is a limitation of the GPS technology unless you are willing to spent more than $3000.00 for a commercial unit that will give you bettery altitude reading.

If you want the ability to tweak the GPS parameters or attributes via program like SiRF Demo, please go with either the Holux GPSlim 236 (cheaper, but equal performance as BT-359w) or the slimmer unit from Globalsat BT-359w. Avoid OnCourse Edition 3 because this product is not compatible with SiRF Demo.

    Hope this helps.

    Re: Best Bluetooth GPS?? Flying,Boating,Driving,Biking,

    Thanks for the info:

After more research the program for flying I use called pocketfms at www.pocketfms.com requires the following

All GPS's that are unable to produce NMEA 0183 output are incompatible with PocketFMS. PocketFMS requires the NMEA GGA, GSA, GSV, RMC and VTG sentences

Which of the BluetoothGPS meet this criteria or can be turned on via SIRF Demo or some other program?

Also are there any 51 channel or 54 channel models with 5hz that would be able to meet these requirements

    Re: Best Bluetooth GPS?? Flying,Boating,Driving,Biking,

    Hi. Thanks for your post.

Yes, MTK GPS receiver like Globaltop G33 or Qstarz 816, 818, Holux M1000/1200 (not in particular order) supports GGA,GSA,GSV,RMC,VTG parameters required by PocketFMS.

Globaltop G33 should be your best bet because it supports 5hz be default and you could configure it to do 1hz if you wish to.
