    iGuidance 4.0 won't install

I just bought and received iguidance 4.0.  I'm unable to get the map files copied to an SD card for my PocketPC.  Ive tried using Active Sync and also just using a SD card reader to copy the "iNav iGuidance" folder to a 2GB SD card.  However, several files give an IO device error when copying to the SD card.  mapdata2.biz, and the poi file, and linkifo.bin.  I can copy to my PC HD, but these files will NOT go to any of my SD cards.  I've wasted 8 hours so far.  HELP!  The program itself installed on my PPC fine, I just can't get the map folder to copy to the SD card.

    Re: iGuidance 4.0 won't install

Pls format the SD card using FAT format and not FAT32.

Once formatted, please copy the files directly to your SD Card reader and do not use Microsoft ActiveSync, which is very slow and highly unreliable for huge files.

VERY IMPORTANT: While copying files, please temporary stop or disable any Anti Virus software or Spyware, which may block / interrupt this process.

    Re: iGuidance 4.0 won't install

I tried it again twice with FAT formatting on 2 different cards, with a card reader and anti-virus and spyware software turned off.  Same problem.

By the way, the SD card I bought at the store yesterday copies over 4 times as fast as the MicroSD card you sent me with my bundle....  The card you sent me gives an estimated 144 minutes remaining copy time from the start, the PNY SD card I bought (same price) estimates 30 minutes from the start.  Both cards fail at the same file with the same spot on the copy progress bar.  The PNY only takes 20 minutes to fail, the one you sent me takes over 2 hours of my time.

I've also checked the web and others are having the same problem copying the files.  Plus, people are reporting that a key file is missing from all the DVD's and you have to get the missing file from inav.  So even when it's installed there are more problem

    Re: iGuidance 4.0 won't install

There is only ONE missing file and you could download it from here: http://discussion.buygpsnow.com/forums/thread/4846.aspx

Please try to format the card using FAT again and then copying the contents of the DVD to a folder on your SD card first and then copy it to your memory card using the card reader.

    Re: iGuidance 4.0 won't install

I've already formatted both of my cards multiple times using FAT, and already tried copying to my HD first as well.  I've tried copying all the files together and I've also tried just copying that one file by itself (mapdata2.biz).  I have spent my entire 3 day weekend trying to copy these files and wasted countless hours doing so.  Every attempt takes hours and I'm sick of doing it.  Ive done everything you've asked with no luck.

    Re: iGuidance 4.0 won't install

I too am having the same issues mdowlin1 is having.  I have formatted the MicroSD for my Cingular 8525 to FAT.  iGuidance 4.0 installed to the MicroSD card fine and I am able to copy the iNav iGuidance folder to the SD card; however, when I attempt to open the program after a complete reboot of my phone/pda the program takes approx 3-5 min to bring up the "Warning" screen and then proceeds to lock up my phone.  The Cingular 8525 with the AT&T ROM update has a 400 Mhz processor and 64mb of ram.  Should be plenty fast for this application.

     Any suggestions?

On a side note, when trying to register with inavcorp.com it says the Serial # with my product on the back of the DVD casing is invalid.  The Activation # worked fine for unlocking/activation on my laptop.

    Re: iGuidance 4.0 won't install

3-5 minutes is a long time. Have you check that you have reserve at least 20MB PDA PRogram memory prior to launching iG4? or at least 7MB AFTER iG4 is launched (with Bluetooth GPS receiver connected to your 8525).

iNAVCorp, the software developer for iGuidance is still trying to re-work their registration page. Please email their support team for their up time schedule. Sorry for the inconvenience.

I installed the IG4 software onto my MicroSD and not the phone itself as I do with all my programs.  I have 38.77 MB under Storage and 24.75 MB under Program.  I am using the SanDisk 2 GB MicroSD.

    Re: iGuidance 4.0 won't install

Could you pls perform a reboot (soft-reset) on the phone and then try to run iGuidance 4 without running or launching any other programs and time it. The goal is to measure the launch time without any other programs competing for CPU / memory resource.

Thanks and kindly report back your test result.

I'll give it a try....I just did a back-up of my phone via Sprite Software and restored the phone to Factory spec.  I have installed IG4 on the phone and I am in the process of recopying the iNav iGuidance folder to my MicroSD.  It may be a few.....

    Re: iGuidance 4.0 won't install

I restored my phone as previously stated to fac spec.  The only thing other than the software that comes with the phone is the IG4 and map folder from the DVD-ROM.  After 5 minutes and my AT&T 8525 being frozen I reset my phone.  I use the GPS Info software that came with my Globalsat bt-359 to make sure the phone is communicating with the receiver via BT.

    Re: iGuidance 4.0 won't install

Hello???  Anyone still working my original problem of not being able to copy the maps to an SD card?  My thread seems to have been a little sidetracked  to another user's different problem and I'm being ignored here.  I still can't get the map files installed, and if I can't get some support here I'm going to pursue getting a return here......

mdowlin1: I am sorry but I do not mind to ignore your request. I am not sure if you have a problem with your microSD card or the SD card reader. Would you like to send us a copy of your microSD card and we will help you to copy the contents?

FYI: Some microSD card is not compatible with some card readers. For example, most SD card reader will only read SD standard but not HDSD (High Density).

    Re: iGuidance 4.0 won't install

In case anyone is still having difficulties installing it, I just got mine working. I have been trying since receiving the DVD in July. The way I dit it was copying the Inav folder into an SD card, by the way of a memory card reader. Inside the Inav folder, there are the (Map) and (scansoft) folders. They have to be created on the SD card before their contents can be copied. Everytime I come across a folder, I recreated it on the SD card (2Gig), ant then copied the files into it. until I copied everything, I did them one at a time, it took me no more than 30 minutes. Finally, I downloaded the missing file from this forum and copied it into the Sd card according to the instructions, into the (map) folder.  I have not used it in my car yet, but I did run the demo and the TTS was fine pronouncing a long street name. This evening, after work I'll put it to the test. I wish InavCorp updated their manual before shipping out the product. I think this manual inside the 4.0 box is for  version 3.0.

    Good luck...
