    GPS software for TMobile Wing

Hi, I am trying to decide on a GPS program for my Wing (201 MHz CPU, 64 RAM, 240x320 display, WM6). After going through the very informative posts on this forum I have it narrowed down to OCN6 and IGuidance 3 (upgrade to 4). I have decided against TomTom.

I have some questions which I hope you will be able to clarify.

    1) Are these compatible with WM6 ?

    2) Which of these programs will fare better on the Wings slow CPU and low memory ? I am concerned about calculation/recalculation speed, smooth display, etc.

    3) Is IGuidance 3 (later 4) locked onto a memory card like OCN6 ?

    4) IGuidance 4 will apparently pronounce street names. You mention somewhere that OCN6 is likely to get that feature in an upgrade. Do you have any further information ?

    5) When running, do these programs allow phone calls to be made or received ?

Thanks in advance for any help

    1) Yes for OCN6 but we are not 100% sure for iGuidance 4 as nothing has been published yet. Please consult www.inavcorp.com for compatibility question with WM6.

    2) Both OCN6 and iGuidance 3 performs about the same on slow CPU. Personally, I felt OCN6 3D rotates / updates smoother than iGuidance 3. Cannot comment on version 4 but based on our info, iGuidance 3 and 4 are in terms of map rendering engine other than version 4 has Text to speech feature and comes with latest map data from NAVTEQ.

    3) iGuidance 3 is not locked into memory card like OCN6. Cannot confirm on iGuidance 4 until it is released but we heard activation is required on this version. Please consult www.inavcorp.com for the better answer.

    4) OCN6 currently does not support TTS but future version that is currently being worked on will support TTS. No ETA and release date for this yet.

    5) Yes.

What you're going to find out is that at least in the case of tmobile's manifestation of the wing........there is so much extraneous and useless garbage loaded on this phone that there isn't enough memory for most gps packages to run.  I had iguidance 4 on my MDA runs fine there, will not run on the Wing.  As far as cpu goes, look into Batterystatus it's a work in process the guy writing it is treating it as donate ware it's a fantastic utility and easily overclocks to 247 mhz with no issues....fantastic little program and i have no problems with lockups etc and it has throttling too (remember pocket pc2003 that would throttle back the cpu when it wasn't needed........makes your battery last forever).  Google maps can access your gps (and can also triangulate fairly close with no gps just from the cell towers if that's available in your town) but the problem with it is...no cell access no maps and there is no active guidance at all.................There is a gps product that downloads maps from google and supposedly saves them on your phone for later use (thus no problem with lack of cell access in remote places) but some of the reviews I've seen say it's a bit of a work in progress too.  There are programs for geo cachers and such as that but you have to find your own maps........Tom tom claims it can run on the wing but it's an expensive program so I'm pretty much resigned to pulling out my venerable axim x5 and running the iguidance on it and forgetting about running gps on my phone because there's just plain so much crap on this phone it can't run...it's really very annoying to have spent all this money on what's supposed to be an upgrade to find that the old phone was better.[:'(]

     Have you tried these:

    1) Go to your today's screen (under Start | Settings | Today, items tab) and start unchecking those features that you do not need. Anything  you check will be loaded to your Today's screen and that consumes memory...

    2) Download a trial version of the Pocket Mechanic (see link below). It helps to optimize performance and increase free memory.
