Can not get Globalsat BC-337 to operate on Q1 (Windows XP via PCMCIA / CF slot)

Installed driver is recognized as Xyloc PC Card Device XL-P (COM3) . Also installed GPS Information. When opened comes up COM Port: COM20, Baud Rate: 4800. When I Start GPS red light on BC- 337 comes on but no reading open. Press Cold Start and $PSRF ...OK, comes up. When I Scan Ports: COM200: NO GPS Receive, comes up. I can munually type in COM3 but only get a ComPort ERROR . Any Help? James

Re: Can not get Globalsat BC-337 to operate on Q1

    We need more info.

What is Q1? Is it a laptop? May I get a link to the product specs. of Q1?

What OS does the Q1 runs on?

How are you connecting BC-337 to your Q1? Is it via PCMCIA adapter card or is it via the CF Slot built-in to Q1?

FYI: The regonize device of "Xyloc" has absolutely nothing to do with Globalsat BC-337, so COM 3 is not a GPS COMM port number to use.

Good, red LED light confirms the correct driver has been installed. Next, you would need to figure out the correct COM Port number number to use with GPS Info software.

    1) Pls try to open up the Device Manager (Under control panel | Administrative Tools | Computer Management)

    2) Double-Click on Ports (Com & LPT) to expand it.

    3) and go down the list to see if you come across something like ".....Compact Flash GPS (COM X)".

X would be the Correct COM Port number assigned by the OS. Anyother COM port will not work.

    Good luck.

    OK

    In device Status window

Windows cannot initialize the device driver for this hardware. (Code 37)

    Comes up.

My name is Jody Lovett. System admin for Wilson's Termite.

I reseated the card and loaded the drivers Globalsat sent yesterday. Device manager shows the card listed correctly with no yellow splats in DevMgr. However, the GPS program is trying to load it on com 2 which isn't working. What do we need to do in order to get this resolved?

May I get your order number please?

I do not understand what you mean by GPS program is trying to load it on COM 2? What GPS program? GPS Info? If yes, GPS Info lets you select the COM Port number and you should select the same COM Port number reported by your OS in the Device Manager as show in the screen capture above.

Re: Can not get Globalsat BC-337 to operate on Q1

You will need to install GPS Gate software, and follow the instruction below to create a virtual port that gives a lower COM Port number.

Here are the steps to do so:

    1. Install GPS Gate software. Free trial from http://franson.com/gpsgate/download.asp?platform=winxp

    2. Turn on your Bluetooth GPS, select Input tap in GPS Gate, use the COM Port 200, select either 19200 or 38400 as baud rate, and click on the "Open" button.

    3. Then click on the Output tab, select "Virtual COM port" in the "Add output - to where GPS Data is set section and click on "add". A new virtual COM Port number will be added in the Active output section. If a Virtual COM Port 2 is created, you may now proceed to configure your GPS application to use COM 2 (optional: if promprted for baud rate, select 4800).
