Help with WBT-201 and Streets & Trips 2007

    Locked Reply Contact

The WBT-201 + Streets & Trips 2007 work perfectly fine on any laptop using bluetooth...  But my laptop does not have bluetooth, so I must use the usb cable that came with the WBT-201.  Streets & Trips 2007 finds the WBT-201 no problems on COM8 - but Streets and Trips still complains that:  "The GPS receiver is sending messages, but they are not being recognized as NMEA 2.0-compatible.  Make sure the GPS receiver input/output format is set to deliver NMEA 2.0-compatible messages at the correct baud (4800 bps)."

If anybody has experience with this or any ideas I'd appreciate the help, thanks!

Re: Help with WBT-201 and Streets & Trips 2007

To use it with Microsoft Streets and Trips (all versions) or other GPS navigation software that accepts only 4800 baud rate, you will have to install the GPS Gate software to downgrade the baud rate from 57600 to 4800.

Here are the steps to do so:
    1. Install GPS Gate software. Free trial from http://franson.com/gpsgate/download.asp?platform=winxp

    2. Install USB Driver that comes with the CD in the WBT-201.

    3. Insert the USB plug into your USB port with the Bluetooth GPS receiver connected, select Input tap in GPS Gate, use the COM Port in step 2 above (refer to the PDF guide for complete details), select either 57600 as baud rate, and click on the Open button.

    4. Then click on the Output tab, select "Virtual COM port" in the "Add output - to where GPS Data is set section and click on "add". A new virtual COM Port number will be added in the Active output section. If a Virtual COM Port 2 is created, you may now proceed to configure your GPS application to use COM 2 (optional: if promprted for baud rate, select 4800).

Now, launch Streets and Trips and you should be able to detect the COM port correctly.

Re: Help with WBT-201 and Streets & Trips 2007

I own a WBT-100 which also generates NMEA sentences at 9600 baud and encountered the same problem with Streets & Trips 2004. I contacted Wintec support: sales_gps@wintec.com.tw and they emailed me a program called Change_Baud_Rate.exe which allows you to set the baud rate of the device to 4800. Doing that requires that you use the USB cable because it disables the bluetooth functionality. It can be re-enabled by setting the baud rate back to 9600. Prior to that I was using a trial version of GpsGate which also worked but would have required purchasing after a couple of weeks. There is no charge for using the Wintec supplied program. Their support department is very responsive.
