Please help ! OnCourse BT-359 won't pair with Dell Axim X51v
No matter what I do, I can't make it work. I am able to scan for the device, find the serial port service, and install it on COM7, however I am not able to connect to it. I see BT-GPS-341DAC in the "Devices" tab but when I tap & hold, the only options are "Edit" and "Delete", with "Set as Hands-Free" and "Set as Wireless Stereo" grayed out. The blue lignt on GPS receiver blinks about every 3 sec indicating there's no connection. I even did the hard reset to make sure I start with a "fresh" PDA.

Re: Please help ! OnCourse BT-359 won't pair with Dell Axim X51v
I did all that and it still won't see the GPS. I mean, it sees it but won't connect.
What else can I do ?

Re: Please help ! OnCourse BT-359 won't pair with Dell Axim X51v
Here's what just happened: 1) Hold power button on GPS receiver for 5 sec to reset it. 2) Turn it on & wait for blue light to start blinking 3) Turn BT on in Axim (I did not check "Make this device discoverable..")
4) Go to "Devices" tab & hit "New partnership" 5) When it shows me (?) BT-GPS-341DAC, I click on it & select "Next" 6) I waited for about half a minute before entering the passkey, and all of a sudden got a notification "The Bxxx device wants to connect to your PDA" or something similar. However, when I clicked "Yes" & entered the passcode (0000) I wasn't able to connect anymore. Is this the right passcode ? Do I even need it ?

Re: Please help ! OnCourse BT-359 won't pair with Dell Axim X51v
OK, here's what I did: - reset GPS - Started adding partnership as described all the way to "enter passcode" prompt - hit "Next" without entering the passcode - now I get the "XXX device wants to connect yes/no" notification. - the passcode dialog will not go away, though. - if I click "yes" the two devices seem to connect (blue light on GPS is blinking rapidly, bluetooth icon on PDA is green) and I am able to specify COM7 port but the "enter passcode" prompt is still "hanging" there - even though I do appear to be connectedm the GPSInfo program shows nothing - I did a soft reset and was unable to restore connection My guess is there's something wrong with passkode processing. (And I made sure to uncheck the "secure" box)

Re: Please help ! OnCourse BT-359 won't pair with Dell Axim X51v
1) After tapping on the new partnership option, how many devices shows up in the list? I am afraid there many be other BT GPS in your nearby area? 2) Normally a Bluetooth GPS receiver will not send an invitation to be paired up with a PDA / PPC. Only a PDA / PPC / Bluetooth-enabled device could send a request to first search the neaby area for a list of Bluetooth GPS devices, present the list to you and after you have selected which one to connect to, it will normally ask you to enter a passkey to be authenticated first before letting you know a list of available serivce the GPS is exposing itself. 3) Were you running other GPS software / GPS utility program while pairing this GPS? 4) Yes, the passkey you entered for 0000 is the correct one. 5) What ROM version do you have on your Axim x51v?

Re: Please help ! OnCourse BT-359 won't pair with Dell Axim X51v
1) I am at home and have no other BT enabled devices. 3) No. I also did a hard reset just before installing it. 5) A12. Again, I was only able to see a rapidly blinking blue light on GPS after I hit "next" without supplying passcode. I can reproduce this. One more thing: I don't know if it's actually BT-359, there's no model number on the package - I took it from PDF file on CD. It's the OnCourse Bluetooth Edition 2 (the small device with a neck strap)

Ummagumma: Here's what just happened: 6) I waited for about half a minute before entering the passkey, and all of a sudden got a notification "The Bxxx device wants to connect to your PDA" or something similar.
I meant to ask you this earlier today. Why did you waited 30 sec before entering the 0000 as the passkey? Why not enter it immediately? If you waited too long, the Bluetooth authentication process may have been timed out and anything you do after that will not be accepted by the Bluetooth GPS receiver since connection could have been disconnected.

Re: Please help ! OnCourse BT-359 won't pair with Dell Axim X51v
I tried to set it up probably a dozen times. I entered the passcode right away every time except for that one, and it was the first time I saw a rapidly blinkinf blue light on GPS. I don't think it was a wait time, though; I was able to reproduce it by hitting "next" instead of entering the passcode. Bottom line is, if I hit "next" instead of entering the passcode (without any wait) I get the rapidly blinking blue light on receiver, and the green B symbol on PDA, but I am unable to read the signal in GPSInfo. If I enter the 0000 passcode I get no connection whatsoever.

Re: Please help ! OnCourse BT-359 won't pair with Dell Axim X51v
Hum... I am not sure where the problem is. I am suspecting it is the Dell that does not process the passcode correctly. If a wrong passcode is entered, you will not be able to see the correct service expose by the OnCourse BT GPS rather than a hang / frozen screen like you have experienced. May I suggest you tried out the same pairing steps with your friend's PDA or a laptop with Bluetooth-radio enabled.
If you could not carry out a test with another bluetooth enabled device, please submit a return request and we will have to take it back for testing. So far, we have not heard of pairing and passcode issue on the OnCourse Edition 2 or the Globalsat BT-359w after more than 5 months of selling them. Please keep us posted on your test result.

Re: Please help ! OnCourse BT-359 won't pair with Dell Axim X51v
Well, I was finally able to get it paired by replacing the default Dell's MS BT stack with a "hacked" Widcomm BT stack from Aximsite.com. I don't feel easy about this as I am not sure what I may have screwed up in the process. I will be more than glad to poke around & get different settings for you, so that you could make it work with default stack. Funny thing is, it never even asked for a passcode (though it is enabled), so it may have filled the zeros itself. It's nearly 2am in Michigan and I better go to bed before my wife kills me . However please post what settings you want me to look for and I will, tomorrow. Since I hard-reset the device, it was using factory default settings, so I doubt that it's just my unit (it's also nearly brand new, barely a month old), & you likely to have this issue in the future. I do appreciate the help I'm getting here (and I was pleasantly surprised by how quickly it shipped). Update: It works but now I am unable to do a USB sync - Windows doesn't recognize my Axim. What a mess ! It's obviously not a solution. I was browsing through this forum and found another person having pairing problems between Axim and BT-359. It appears he got his unit replaced but it's unclear if that helped. Question to the nice support people on this forum - what options do I have ? Is there a device that's been proven to work with X51v that I could exchange this one for ? Being able to sync is definitely a must to me, so using the Widcomm stack is out of question. Right now all I have is a small paperweight and a box of software I can't use.
PLEASE HELP !

Re: Please help ! OnCourse BT-359 won't pair with Dell Axim X51v
So far we have not heard of any Bluetooth setup issue on the Axim x51v on the Globalsat or OnCourse or any other Bluetooth GPS receivers we sell. Please clarify if you are using the original Bluetooth drivers from your A12 ROM image or you have upgraded/tweaked/ hacked it?

Re: Please help ! OnCourse BT-359 won't pair with Dell Axim X51v
I am unable to connect even as a first thing after a hard reset (and I did about three of them to try different settings from scratch). I turn BT on -> Se;ect device, wait for program to show (?) BT-GPS-341DAC -> click on it & select next -> enter 0000 passkey (making sure the secure connection is unchecked), check a Serial port service, I then add COM7 as an Outgoing port. After that if I click on (?) BT-GPS-341DAC the only options I have are "Edit", "Delete", "Set as Hands-Free" (grayed out), and "Audio" (grayed out). No "Connect". I tried to soft reset device after initial setup, I tried to take SD and CF cards out, I tried with "Make this device visible to other devices" option and without it. I followed to the last letter every direction I could find.
I tried the same thing as above without selecting Serial port service, as someone suggested. Same results (no results). It can see the GPS when I hit "Refresh", but wouldn't pair to it.
However, if I install the Widcomm bluetooth stack (available on Aximsite.com forums) I can pair devices and connect on first attempt. No problems whatsoever. No manual tweaking on my part - it shows me the device, and the next thing I know it is set up and all I have to do is to long-tap on it and select "Connect". I have been using this receiver with Widcomm stack for almost a week now and it works fine. However, I am concerned that if Dell rolls out a ROM patch & it somehow prevents me from installing Widcomm stack, I will be left without any options. It's obviously not the problem with hardware, as both units work fine with Widcomm stack. It is some communication problem between this receiver and default BT stack.

I have not received any replies either to the last message, or to the support ticked submitted a week ago.
