using GMR75 usb gps receiver with Mappoint

I have the GlobalTop GMR75 receiver installed with the com imulation that came with the product.  The little gps viewer program recognizes the receiver.  Map point sees the receiver but says it is not sending data in the proper format to be recognized by the program (NMEA 2.0 compatable).  Does this receiver send data in the proper format for the microsoft program to receive it?

Re: using GMR75 usb gps receiver with Mappoint

Hi, what emulation program did you installed? Could you please clarify?

Also, were you running both GPS Viewer and Microsoft Streets and Trips program, both at the same time?  (If yes, you must exit the GPS Viewer program or it will block / occupy the GPS COM Port from being accessed by Microsoft Streets and Trips.

Here is the proper procedure to setup the GMR75 with Microsoft Streets and Trips:

The GMR75 is outputting GPS data thru 9600 bps baud rate and may not work with any GPS application accepting a fix rate of 4800 bps.

Please consider the solution below and let us know your test result.

GPS Gate: Free trial is available.

To use it with Microsoft Streets and Trips (all versions) or other GPS navigation software that accepts only 4800 baud rate, you will have to install the GPS Gate software to downgrade the baud rate from 115200 to 4800.

Here are the steps to do so:
    1.         Install GPS Gate software. Free trial from http://franson.com/gpsgate/download.asp?platform=winxp
    2.         Install USB Driver using the instruction here: http://www.buygpsnow.com/driver/pdf/Setup_Guide_for_USB_GPS_Receiver.pdf
    3.         Insert the USB plug into your USB port with the Bluetooth GPS receiver connected, select Input tap in GPS Gate, use the COM Port in step 2 above (refer to the PDF guide for complete details), select 115200 as baud rate, and click on the "Open" button.
    4.         Then click on the Output tab, select "Virtual COM port" in the "Add output - to where GPS Data is set section and click on "add". A new virtual COM Port number will be added in the Active output section. If a Virtual COM Port 2 is created, you may now proceed to configure your GPS application to use COM 2 (optional: if promprted for baud rate, select 4800).
