GPS datalogger running on AA or AAA?

I would aprpeciate if someone could help me with following. I'm looking for GPS datalogger which meet following specs:

    1. mainly to use for pedestrian walking trips.

    2. Compatible either with GPSBabel or BT747 software as I'm using Linux OS only.

    3.  and most important, it should run on AA or AAA batterries because I may go hiking to mountains or other place far from civilization and the only power source which would be available to me are standard batterries.

Originally I was looking to Holux m-241 but read few reviews which claim that it's performance aren't that great as with other devices, especially if it have wrong orientation.

I'd appreciate for any advices, feedback and would also appreciate sample tracks  if possible.

Re: GPS datalogger running on AA or AAA?

We only have 2 units that runs on AAA batteries. They are the M241 and Wintec Easy Showily (cannot be used as a GPS receiver, it only logs GPS data).

Out of these 2 models, only the Holux M241 is compatible with BT747 software.

Neither the M241 nor the Wintec Easy Showily Driverless USB Track Data Logger GPS are compatible with GPSBabel (as of writing).

I think your best bet is the Holux M241 or the Q1200 / Q1200 Ultra units, which comes with a built-in Solar Panel that helps extend the operation time of up to 48 hrs*

*1 BT-Q1200 can be extended up to 48 hours usage under enough sunlight (24 days usage with 2 hours navi per day)

Re: GPS datalogger running on AA or AAA?

Thanks for your reply! I was hoping that I missed some device and there are some alternative for M241 which run on AA and would work on Linux but seems that was wrong :P

Thanks for suggestion, Q1200 looks nice but guess I'll not be able to expose it constantly to sun in order to prolong it's working time and it's price is a bit higher than my budget.

So I'll probably take M241 for evaluation and later check for other devices.

Thanks once again for your help!

Hope that this info would be useful to someone.
