    I can't pair my Sony Ericsson w580i with I-Blue 737

Though the SE w580i says it supports Bluetooth v2.0 serial port profile, after the phone discovers the I-Blue 737 it will not display or connect to any services from the gps receiver.  In desperation, I unbranded the phone hoping that the carrier had crippled the functionality.  But that didn't work either.  I've scoured the web for clues and have sent messages to people who, in passing, mentioned that they were using bluetooth gps with their SE w580i phones but I have received no responses.

I successfully paired this same gps with an HP IPAQ 2390. That was a breeze...

Any and all help/suggestions for the SE w580i would be greatly appreciated.

Hi CB, as soon as you entered the passkey of 0000 (4 zeros) on the Sony phone, did you get a resonse back for a list of service(s) that the phone discovered?

If yes, you should only be getting one service back and it should says something like "Serial Port" or "Serial Port Protocol (aka SPP)".

Did you get this far? If not, I am afraid your phone's Bluetooth radio does not truly support SPP. Have you try to contact Sony Tech Support for this?

I did enter the passkey and the device was added to my phone but when I clicked the "services" menu item the phone told me there were no supported services available.  I guess my next step is SE tech support.  Thanks.

SE Tech support was not very helpful.  They said they don't guarantee that their devices are compatible with anything but other SE devices and accessories.  Yeehaw!  I read a post in the ATT Wireless forum where a guy claimed he had unbranded his w580i so he could use it with a bluetooth gps receiver.  I tried to contact the poster via his profile in the forum but have received no response.

I've got this same question out in the ATT Wireless forum as well... here
